SOARing in Ohio
Administrated through the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO), SOAR Ohio helps move some of Ohio’s most vulnerable community members into better housing opportunities, through access to the Social Security benefits application process. SOAR Ohio specialists assist by helping individuals experiencing homelessness expedite the federal Supplemental Security Income/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSI/SSDI) application process. Through a strong partnership with the Social Security Administration and the Division of Disabilities Determination, SOAR Ohio Specialists represent clients during the application process from start to finish.

Expectations of Participation in SOAR
For certification and eligibility to submit a SOAR-assisted application in Ohio, successful completion of the SOAR Online Child or Adult Course must be established. A second training will follow, offered by the SOAR Ohio Lead Team, with a review session of the SOAR Online Course, training on submission of claims and policy specifics for Ohio SSA and DDS. This is currently a 4-hour virtual certification and is by invitation only from the SOAR State Lead.
Expectations of SOAR Ohio Certified Specialists
Specialists must follow the National SOAR process as well as state-specific policies. All specialists are encouraged to connect with State Lead, Local Leads and HU SOAR Center Liaison. To learn more about SOAR Ohio expectations, please view the PDF document under the above “State Documents” tab.
